BuzzFeed
Over my 2.5 years at BuzzFeed, I was lucky there at the hub of branded content as we know it today. In less than two years, I worked my way up from intern to become one of five creative managers with eight direct reports. Overall, I worked with 150+ clients, notably assigned as creative lead for all Target and A&E Network campaigns.
Here is a list (not listacle, don’t worry) of my favorite and most successful posts/campaigns. Scroll down or click a desired campaign below.
Just another big box store pushing product during the holidays, right? Not Target.
In order to break through the holiday clutter, we came up with a strategy to build narratives that spoke honestly about how magical (and, well, stressful) every aspect of holiday season can be. Creating a wide range of posts, we were able to focus on multiple target markets through individualized narratives, all while associating Target as the #1 spot to any kind of holiday dreams come true.
It only came once a year, and the emotional rollercoaster was very real. Now, reliving those “GAAAAH WHAT DID SANTA BRING ME” dreams is just a click away.
To get parents in the mindset of what their children were experiencing while heading back to school, our strategy was to create nostalgic style posts that transported grownups back to their early school years. Once those memories were fresh in the parents mind, our goal was for the parents to pass that excitement on to their kids and prepare them for the year to come.
You know you still whip that hand out when you need to figure out what 9x8 equals. Or what about your dear friend Roy G. Biv? I created custom GIFs illustrating all the classic mnemonics that saved our lives during some pretty stressful exams… and some we aren’t ashamed to still use today.
To introduce the 2015 Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai wanted to create content that branched off their Roadtrip Across America initiative. Our strategy was to challenge the reader in entertaining ways, testing their knowledge about the U.S. of A. while encouraging them to explore the off-off-OFF the beaten path destinations on their next big road trip adventure.
If someone asked you to draw the outline of Wyoming from memory, could you do it? In one of the first branded posts to incorporate the “slidey thing” feature, we tested BuzzFeed staff to do their best at drawing multiple states from memory. The results were… well… interesting.
To expand on their new healthy lifestyle initiative Fresh 180°, we created a well rounded strategy for Ziploc that focused on three major components: identity, motivation, and aspiration. The whole campaign became both a relatable and useful set of posts that motivate readers to be the best (and healthiest) they can be.
Finding that special someone who screams at you to do one more pushup AND gossip at the juice bar after a crazy workout is hard to find. This is a celebration of that connection.
